kalgoorlie_the_big_pit_dsc04498A Swiss firm will commence mining of solid minerals, including diamond, gold and barite in Adamawa State, Nigeria, next month.

The Commissioner of Solid Mineral Resources, Shanti Shashi, said this, while speaking at the 4th Adamawa Community Dialogue organized the the NGO,  Adamawa Community Advancement Initiative (ACAI).

Shashi said the foreign investor, BTP Swiss Sovereign Asset and the Adamawa Mining Company would exploit seven minerals namely; diamond, gold, zinc, bitumen, barite, uranium and platinum in the state under a three-year agreement.

 In his paper, Economic Diversification through Solid Mineral Resources Development; The Adamawa State Prospects, Professor Saidu Baba, called on government to ensure joint venture investment obtained in the oil sector, promotes the development of minerals in the state.

In his remarks, the convener of ACAI, Bashir Ahmad, canvassed diversification from oil to solid minerals.
