After confirming earlier today that workers had returned to work underground following an illegal strike at Lonmin‘s Saffy and Newman shafts, the company’s spokesperson Sue Vey confirmed to Mining News‘s Reggie Sikhakhane that production has been impacted as a result.

“We have lost two shifts of production and anticipate that there is some form of loss owing to the strike that began yesterday,” she said.

Vey pointed out that Lonmin is awaiting results from the two affected shafts, which will provide a more detailed figure regarding the amount of mined platinum that may have been lost due to the strike.
