Following two days of strike action, Lonmin advised that striking employees had returned to work for the night shift.

The platinum miner said discussions around the issues that have formed the basis of workers’ demands are on-going, but that the company believes that returning to work and allowing engagement to continue through established channels is in everyone’s best interest, especially in an unprotected action where the  principle of no work no pay applies.

Lonmin asserted that the physical safety of its employees and the community is the company’s absolute priority, and that it urges all stakeholders to deliver a message of “no tolerance for violence” and to allow these issues to be resolved peacefully.

Lonmin said it would provide further information as the situation develops.
