Xylem Water Solutions South Africa is launching the brand new Leopold Type XA™ filter underdrain at its Xylem Water Solutions South Africa.

This is the first ever Xylem Product Showcase and Client Conference and is being held at Gallagher Estate on 12 and 13 August and the Leopold Type XA™ marks the fifth premier product to be launched at the event.

Gerhardt Crous, Business Unit Treatment Manager at Xylem Water Solutions South Africa, says: “We are looking forward to the first ever Xylem Product Showcase and Client Conference and we are proud to launch another brilliant product like the Leopold Type XA™ from one of the premier product-lines in our stable and boasts the world’s most extensive underdrain reference list with 8 000 Leopold Underdrains installed around the world since 1924.”

The Leopold Type XA™ filter underdrain is a revised model of the highly successful Type S and Type SL filter underdrains currently installed in various applications around the world.
At just 209mm tall, this new underdrain allows for a lower vertical footprint that results in either increased filtration driving head or reduced capital costs. Its breakthrough arch design improves efficiency and enables longer lateral runs of up to 9.75metres.

Innovative design features of Xylem’s Underdrain include a compact height, internal arch design and grout-pocket technology (patent pending) that combine to allow treatment plants to consistently deliver higher quality effluent. Grout pockets are capable of resisting up to 2.1 bar) of uplift pressures; which is three times what the nearest competitor can withstand.

The Leopold Type XA™ from Xylem is suitable for applications such as potable water, wastewater or desalination pre-treatment filters. It also works with almost all filter flume arrangements, including wall feed. In addition, Xylem’s new underdrain employs a new patented quick snap on/off handle, which improves ease of installation. Combined with Leopold’s I.M.S ® 200 or 1000 media retainers and Leopold’s GROUT-TITE® bridge, Xylem’s Leopold Type XA Underdrain provides a reliable and flexible filtration system with low cost of ownership.
