Eskom has revised its coal-haulage operating hours in mitigation of public fatalities and safety incidents.

With its partners in the logistics and the mining industry, Eskom has stopped the trucking of coal to its power stations between 18:00 on Fridays and 06:00 on Sundays in a bid to reduce accidents in the Mpumalanga province. The new operating hours came into effect this past Friday, 11 October 2013.

“This intervention will result in increased rest time for truck drivers and all transporters’ staff, which will aid in fatigue management and allow for regular intervals to conduct in-depth maintenance and mechanical performance testing of trucks to further minimise incidents resulting from mechanical failure,” Eskom says.
