The maiden export shipment of 12,175 wet metric tonnes of zinc concentrate from Perkoa project has been loaded and sailed.

The first shipment of zinc concentrate sailed from the Port of Abidjan in the Côte d’Ivoire and is regarded by Blackthorn Resources, the ASX-listed company, as a very important milestone for the project.

Trucking of zinc concentrate to port is continuing, with approximately 16,000 wet metric tonnes of zinc concentrate delivered to port, following the successful testing of the mine-to-port trucking logistics chain.

The Perkoa project is located 120km west of the Burkina Faso capital Ouagadougou and is a joint venture between Glencore Xstrata, Blackthorn Resources and the Burkina Faso government. Glencore is the project manager.

“The loading of the maiden shipment from our Perkoa mine marks a very important milestone for the project, Blackthorn Resources and our joint venture partners. We are also looking forward to continuing ramp up at the mine,” says Scott Lowe, Blackthorn Resources managing director.
