Mike Teke, founder of Dedicoal, and non-executive director of Optimum Coal, has been elected as the new president of the Chamber of Mines at its AGM held at the Johannesburg Country Club on 5 November. The outgoing president is Anglo American chief executive Mark Cutifani.Ms Khanyisile Kweyama, executive director, Anglo American South Africa, is first vice president, while Graham Briggs, CEO, Harmony Gold, is the second vice president. Teke left Impala in 2008 to become a founding member of Optimum Coal, and was subsequently appointed CEO. He was part of Optimum‘s listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2010.
He was appointed vice president of the Chamber of Mines in 2011/12, as well as being appointed chairman of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal in 2012.He is the founder and controlling shareholder of Dedicoal, a service-based mining and beneficiation company.
